Looking After YOU

As a parent or caregiver, it is only natural for you to put the needs of your charges before your own. However, at a certain point this becomes dangerous, not just for you but for them. After all, who will take your aged mother to her treatments in naturopathic medicine in Toronto if you are hospitalized because of a nagging pain you ignored for too long? So for your own benefit and theirs, make an effort to look after yourself. Here's how.

Visit Medical Professionals Regularly

While it may not be necessary for you to undergo cosmetic dentistry in Mississauga unless you have an accident, you should visit your dentist, doctor, and optometrist regularly: at least once per year. The best way to do this is to book an appointment immediately when their offices call with their reminders. Also don't forget to seek treatment for any sudden conditions that arise, such as viruses or injuries so you can be at 100% for your charges.

Exercise

While assisting aged relations into the bath or picking up after your kids is physically demanding, it doesn't count as exercise. Exercise is a sustained activity that releases endorphins that improve your mood. So take the time out to do it, even if you have to get off the bus early and jog to your relatives' retirement home. A good exercise routine and a busy schedule CAN mesh if you think outside the box.

Eat Well

As tempting as it is to just throw together meals of frozen pizza or fast food for yourself in between driving your charges to doctor's appointments and lessons, don't! Try to prepare healthy, balanced meals at home. Do not prepare multiple meals for demanding kids. If you must grab something on the go on your way to anger management programs then get a sandwich or salad to spare your arteries and waistline.

Relieve Stress

The ultimate stress relief is an all-inclusive trip to Troncones, Mexico but sadly most of us don't have the time or money to go. There's no harm in PRETENDING you're there for a half hour a day, though. So set aside some time each day for an activity you find relaxing. It could be a yoga class, meditating in a dark room, or even just sitting in front of the TV and watching your favorite program. The important thing is that everyone understands you're not to be interrupted unless it's a real emergency.
