Many people often take their families for granted in the sense that they never
really get to know one another on a deep emotional level, or at least not with
all members of their family. Perhaps there is a favorite aunt or cousin that
knows all about you and vice versa, but what about those other members of your
extended family that you see once a year? Or perhaps your family lives miles
away from you (and maybe even each other), which makes frequent get-together's
impossible. Or, perhaps your family lives very close to one another, and you
have all bought a new Markham
home on the same block! No matter what the geographical proximity, getting
to know your family and really trying to understand them as human beings requires
participation from both sides.
You may be presented with the reluctance from your relative, who (for whatever
reason) does not want to get to know you or anyone else better at all. They claim their content going to their job at an executive recruitment firm and coming home to a cat and television set. A good
way around this is to tap into their interests and offer an activity that you
know they will not refuse. Maybe you could arrange to get tickets to their favorite
sports team playing at the ACC, or the Stockey Center. You can then use this
time together to get to know them better, and perhaps discover the source of
their reluctance to spend time together!
There are many obstacles in the way of families getting closer in today's
wired and hectic society, yet getting to know your own family better is a great
thing to do not only for the benefit of your relationships, but for your own
self-discovery as well. The advantages of the internet for communicating with
family members that live far from you are numerous. You can send emails, have
instant message chats, or live conversations on Skype once a week, or more,
and the best part is that this is all very low cost. For instance, why not send
out e-cards to all of your family inviting them to your upcoming cottage wedding?
You'll save time, money and paper by ditching the old technique of mailing
out invitations, and also it will give you instant access to your guest list
and in all likelihood, you'll receive much quicker RSVPs!
There is a practical side to getting to know your family members better, and
it is not just better communication and more balanced familial ties. These people
share your genes, your DNA, and often this means that they also share some of
your qualities and personality traits - good and bad! Finding out your family's
medical history, for example, can signal you to be on the lookout for any hereditary
diseases or conditions that you are aware of. You and your diabetic sister may
have more in common that your love for antique bathroom furniture vanities!
Knowing the diseases that are common in your family's history is important
to your health and your peace of mind.
Your family members may have hidden skills and talents that you don't
know about simply because you never asked! Find out what areas your family members
specialize in, and this will not only help you understand them better, there
may be some benefit for you as well - once you have discovered that your niece
is an early childhood education specialist, you may want to remove your classified
ad entitled: Seeking a good nanny agency Calgary. Even if there is no personal
benefit to getting to know your family better, you will certainly feel the positive
effects of making bonds and connections with the people you are related to.
