De-Stressing Techniques

You work hard, you come home, you play hard. You go to bed and you sleep hard. You wake up in the morning unrefreshed, fill the void with coffee, and start all over again. You may not see a problem with this now, but these are the early warning signs of an approaching mid-life crisis. In a couple of years you're going to wake up and wonder where your life has gone. Sure you had a successful career in real estate, but you spent so much time pleasing other people that you never took the time to please yourself.

You may think it has to be one or the other but that's not true. With the aid of a few easy de-stressing techniques you can learn to enjoy the little things like the smell of roses or a smile from your husband and still close on three Mississauga homes for sale in a week. In fact, we'll wager you'll start doing even better at work as well as in your personal life once you've reached a place of balance in your mind.

The biggest de-stressing technique and the one that most career people find the hardest to implement is to leave your work at the office. Coming home from work at the end of the day should be the beginning of "you" time or "family time" if you have a family. What it should not be is mental preparation time for what you'll be doing in the office tomorrow. When you're reading the paper, stop making mental lists of the clients who would be interested in the real estate listings if you're an Etobicoke real estate agent. Toronto newspapers have other sections. So do a crossword with your husband or read the funnies to your kids or try out that cupcake recipe in the food section. Whatever strikes your fancy.

Exercise is a great de-stresser. The endorphins released during the physical workout take you to a place in your mind where you can relax and let your worries go. It doesn't have to be complicated, either. You don't have to reserve the trendiest treadmill in Toronto Bods Gym to get a decent workout. You can take your dog jogging in the park or do yoga at home in front of the TV. Whatever fits best into your schedule.

Sometimes relaxing comes in the form of relaxation, as well. Outdoor stores sell a variety of hammocks and synthetic slings that you can hang up in your yard or on your porch, even if you don't have any trees. You can de-stress simply by lying down in one and rocking yourself to nappyland for a half hour or so.

You may think that de-stressing techniques are only useful to people who are married or have children and are trying to make more of an effort to spend time with their families. This is not the case at all. In fact, de-stressing helps singletons as well! It's a proven fact that men want to get into womens pants, but did you know that they're more likely to go for fun, relaxed women with confidence than high-strung career-obsessed ice queens?
